Pot holes, Sludge, incomplete roads, no street lights – How to see Ganpati

$

Belagavi has a unique place in the history of Karnataka as it was here that the Ganesha festival was first celebrated as a public event, and was kick-started by none other than the legendary freedom fighter Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak.

More than 1 lakh people visit the pandal every day during the 10-day celebrations. Every suburb in the city now has a Ganesh Utsav Mandal and in some lanes, two idols are installed at either end. Even new layouts and lanes have begun installing Ganesha idols, taking the number to 378 in the city limits.
But this time around thanks to the smart city incomplete roads, pothole laden roads, no street lights the citizens is having a hard time seeing their favorite Ganesh.

This time around the rains have added to the misery of the Ganesh Bhakts with water logging and continuous downpour.

On Sunday night we saw traffic jams due to potholes and one family fell down as the rider could not control when he landed his front wheel in a pothole. Luckily no major injuries. Many bikes skidded on the roughened Mahatma Phule road.

The police which barricades everywhere did not barricade potholes and incomplete roads. Above all these people throwing crackers in the air added more to the problems.

In Shahpur only recently an elderly man lost his sight due to crackers but who cares.
The corporation might have installed some lamps on streets where the procession goes by but there are roads and circles in dark and traveling in the night is a huge issue.

Only Lord Ganesh can save his children.

Addressing the media here today Minister for Rural Development and Panchayatraj K S Eshwarappa today said that some offices of his depart will be shifted to Suvarna Vidhana Soudha (SVS) very shortly.

It has been a very long pending demand that govt offices be shifted to the SVS but none of the govt’s have ever shown any interest in the same.

After protests, the Govt in office promises to shift a few offices here but in reality, nothing happens. I last August BSY had joined the protests and then chief minister H D Kumaraswamy, on the same day announced that some offices would be shifted to SVS.
But even after a year, nothing has materialized.

The SVS building is currently gone green with moss all over and the ceiling is also leaking at various places.

YOU CANNOT ACHIEVE EVERYTHING – Learn to be Satisfied, not Addicted!!!

Addiction – WHEN, WHERE, and HOW MUCH is the question to be asked not only for young children or adults but to society.

We often feel we need to have everything in life, but the fact is there are limitations for everyone and we always feel some things are missing. We need to count our blessings and not our worries…

Habits can be addictions in progress… If you are habitual to something, you will slowly be addicted to it. Addiction could be of anything like mobile phones, social media, alcohol, tobacco, drugs, negative thoughts, not maintaining healthy relations, etc., there are many things to list. Addiction can also be described as habits that cannot be controlled.

When addicted, we tend to focus more on our own emotions, own winning, becoming more aggressive and dominating towards every other individual.

How does a person get addicted? They plan to make more time for it, try to make more efforts/attempts towards it, and see that they are closer to their expected goal or target now. (Example, a Video Game). In this phase, the positives are these people show that they know the importance of achieving their targets/goals by giving proper time and putting genuine efforts, but when dealing with Life problems, they get confused, irritated, depressed and perform aggressive behaviors. One needs to understand that LIFE is also a game to be played in a similar way and it is not to be destroyed. Addictions can be stopped, restarted, monitored, and managed, but a LOST LIFE CANNOT.

Mental-Health-HeadsTherefore, it is important to understand that the most important thing in our lives are the relations we hold dear and not the materialistic things nor any addictions. Losing out on relations and making new ones is today’s trend and criticizing their previous relations is very much seen.

Up to what extent addictions can take people ahead, we may have witnessed. If relaxation and being comfortable are the reasons, then there are many other things where one can find it, but only for the sake of relaxation if one has to exceed their addictions then certainly it is not advisable from any point of view.

Addiction or Habits if monitored with WHEN, WHERE, AND HOW MUCH formula (WHEN is the best time, WHERE is the right place, and How Much to do it), so the addiction rate may come down gradually. Following this surely will keep people out of dangers, be much more devoted, and learn to be more satisfied. With this, you will never get the urge to go for addiction to get relaxed or being comfortable.

Addictions get stronger because people see only the pleasures they get from it so they often do it more, also because they are not exposed to anything else that can make them feel better other than that addiction itself. To overcome these feelings or situations, one must always feel free to talk to their closed ones or professionals about it. They can give you right path, help you relax, make you understand the situation, and in the process you may get the happiness or relaxation you are looking for.

The attitude from the senior members of society should be positive enough to the younger ones saying, THE WORLD IS A BETTER PLACE and avoid saying “Nowadays, people are a lot mean and they are not interested in others problems.” Children lose hope when they hear such statements and try to indulge in themselves, avoid being social, and then they fail to understand their situation or problems they are facing. They hesitate to open up and tend to make ways on their own, which can be at times disturbing to themselves and the society they live at large.

It would be very important to understand this. As the world today is moving a lot faster, we need to inculcate proper values and build healthy relations to avoid such things in future. Adult or child, personal or professional, start working on the addictions whatever it may be with WHEN, WHERE, AND HOW MUCH..

and we could see the change our society needs, please contribute for the betterment..

Belagavi, Industries, investors and way forward

Jagadish Shettar, Hon’ble Minister for Large & Mega Industries, Govt of Karnataka interacted with Investors of Karnataka and Maharashtra states on 11th Sept, 2019 at Hotel Fairfield Marriott Belagavi.

Belagavi has not had a new industrial estate in last 20-25 years after Honaga. The state of the infrastructure in Udyambag is known to all and not much has been done to upgrade the same.

The growth of industries and Investment in Karnataka is concentrated around the capital of Karnataka. The lack of industrial growth in North Karnataka has many reasons and to name the Major one is the lack of preparedness in every sense. The investor meetings current and past were only Limited to headlines. The investor needs a ready Land, well-supported Infrastructure, Good connectivity, Logistics Transport, Housing, Education Entertainment and a friendly environment with ease of doing business.

The way Forward

The proposal of new Railway line from Belagavi to Dharwar need not be only be looked as the alternate to the existing roundabout root via Ramanagar. This new line has a lot of other benefits which will surely contribute to the peak for the Social and Economical Development of North Karanataka.

The proposed new electric double line Railways not only to be extended to State Boundary Nippani, in fact, it has to Start from Kolhapur. The existing Seven Industrial Estates, Kolhapur MIDC, Kagal MIDC, Five Star Industrial Estate, Aequs, Honaga, Auto Nagar, Kittur and Belur are the added advantage for this corridor. We have to propose new Big Industrial Estate at Nippani, Sankeshwar, Belagavi [ from Aequs to MK Hubli ] Agricultural, IT, Foundry Textiles Hydraulics and many other on this corridor.

This Railway Industrial corridor not only connect the cities and make the Route shorter but immensely contribute to the overall development of North Karnataka.

Cargo and Logistics

The Railways being the cheapest version on mass public and logistic transport will help the people to commute from one Industrial estate to others and at the same time from one city to other.

Belagavi being the centre and the rail connectivity to Sea Ports via existing lines will add huge cargo movement to Goa and Karwar Port. The national highway assures good Road transport.

New Dimensions

The agricultural products, Ethanol movement to other parts of the country and the world will boost the overall economic growth of this region.

Focus

We need to have one or two Big Industries in every industrial estate which will have Commercial Spaces along with Highway, Housing and education at the second level and with an Industrial estate at Third level with a green barrier.

Advantages

The skilled manpower, Educational facilities, Medical Facilities, Three functional Airports in this vicinity and a good Cosmo multi linguistics culture, Belagavi will drive the next level of growth to be the second capital of Karnataka in real sense.

Planning

The overall growth pattern has to be planned for the coming 15 years which are to be divided into three phases. The second phase can be added with new Railway connectivity to Kalyana Karnataka with Belagavi as Hub.

The railway line project will boost the social and economical growth of North Karanataka and I am sure the ROI on this project to Railways with this social and economical development is priceless, said Chaitanya Kulkarni, President-Elect CREDAI Karnataka.

Sachin Sabnis is Managing Director, Belgaum Ferrocast Pvt. Ltd opined that the existing industries in Belagavi are suffering due to lack of infrastructure, unavailability of land for expansions. No proper industrial policy focused towards the manufacturing sector. Highest minimum wages in India.

We need to stress these things as the existing industries will invest more than anyone coming from outside given the opportunity.

Today’s meet is leaving a bad feeling amongst the local industries not because we don’t want investment to come but not when the local industry is starving for proper infra and lack of land for expansion in such a scenario calling industries from outside state and doing investor meet is uncalled for.

Are we trampling our sensibilities, culture, customs and traditions?

$

By Praveen Kulkarni

The Ganesh visarjan process which should happen on the day of Anant Chaturdashi overflows into the afternoon/evening of the next day. This happens every year, year after year, perennially, perpetually.

Some Ganesh mandals begin their procession after midnight. Our youngsters, in big numbers, take pride in the indecent and immoral display of music, money, crackers, tobacco, liquor, and God alone knows what other things. Cabaret songs/music, deafening levels of volume, gyrating and sleaze/indecent dance movements. . . all this during Ganesh Chaturthi/Anant Chaturdashi processions?

We see the same scene during Shiv Jayanti processions and many other religious and dharmic occasions. At other times, we say GARV SE KAHO HUM HINDU HAIN!! Should we, as Hindus be proud of such behavior? Is this Hindu tradition? Is this what our ancestors have taught us? Have we ever known of such customs in our history? The world is learning Hinduism from us. Is this what we project as part of Hindu tradition?

Do we realize the repercussions of such celebration on different limbs of the society that we live in? There are children studying in not just someone else’s home, but our own house too. Infants and toddlers are petrified by the sound emanating from the music systems arranged in varying layers atop vehicles. Senior and super seniors are a part of almost every family . . . have we spared a thought for these silent sufferers of our celebrations? Have our sensibilities and sense of humanity and social responsibility divorced us?

We blame the Government machinery for its inaction. Whether it is the Police, the Municipal Corporation, the Electricity Board or whichever arm of the administration, are we not adding to their already unmanageable workload and operational difficulties?

We demand speeding up of smart city projects. It is our absolute constitutional right to demand amenities and facilities and infrastructure as honest taxpayers, no doubt.

ganesh-visarjanWhy/how do we conveniently overlook that it is also our duty to be, become and behave as smart people, living in a smart way and grow as a smart society?

In a family function or a social get-together, each one is free to play, dance and enjoy cabarets and any kind of behavior. . . but why do that in God’s name ???

With the kind of religious fervor that is displayed in the society, a few uncomfortable questions come and keep coming to our minds . . . again and again

Are we making our elders, parents, and forefathers happy and proud of this kind of behavior?

Is this how we value the legacies of Lokamanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and other religious and social reformers?

Would they endorse and/or be proud of what we are doing under their name

Are we setting a model example for our children and future generations to follow?

If our children were to do the same thing, would we like/endorse such behavior?

Is this the way our society is going to progress?

Where is all this going to take us?

I know very well that I am a minuscule minority in this regard. I know I may be labeled anti-social, ati-shahana, old-fasihoned and outdated. I also know this will not make any difference to those celebrating such occasions. I have just vented out my pain and agony. . . a stupid common man that I am.

The presentation of participants of the Fourth Indo-Israel certificate program on ‘Sustainable Design – Small is Beautiful’ will be held on 16 September 2019 at 14.30 to 17.30 hours at the Senate Hall, VTU. The certificate program organized by the Institute of Environmental Architecture (IEAR) Mumbai was successfully conducted in collaboration with the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, and the Hebrew University, Jerusalem and hosted by VTU Belagavi.

The success of the program is attributed to the collaborations set up during a roadshow in June by the team of IEAR with experts, NGOs and the local people of Belgaum.

Dr. Smitha Surebankar provided an overview of history, culture and tradition of Belgaum to the team and later conducted the heritage walk for the participants. Mrs. Sunita Hanamshet introduced the team to local houses and to the Rotary Club of Belgaum where Mr. Vikrant Kudale, a local from Belgavi offered a visit of his 16- year old house in Shahpur. He also introduced the team to the Ginde family in sonar Galli in Shahpur. Both these houses served as a case study and site visit for the participants.

Mrs. Hanamshet also conducted a tour of the Vivekanand memorial for the team. Here, Ms. Jyoti Kiran explained about the mission, the exhibit and the restoration work of the Vivekanand memorial. This became one of the site visits in the program. Opposite the Vivekanand memorial, the team made contact with the Uppin family thanks to their hospitality.

The key person in this collaboration is VTU’s program coordinator, Asst. Prof. Rohan Gurav from the Land and Water Management Institute. Dr. A. V. Shivpur, Regional Director, VTU, gave his full support for the program. He made it a point to visit the case study houses during the course of the program, a unique gesture for a person of his stature. Rohan Gurav also took the team to Gokhuldham Vedic village, about 25 km from Belagavi. The participants will be taken for a half day tour of this place on Saturday 14 September 2019.

The cultural experience for the Israeli students was enhanced when local students along with Asst. Prof. Rohan Gurav took them to participate in the Ganpati aarti and Ananta Chaturdashi procession on 12 September 2019.

The program would not have been possible without the support of patron Dr. A.S. Deshpande and chief patron, Dr. Karisidappa, Honorable Vice Chancellor of VTU Belagavi. The IEAR Mumbai team, faculty of Bezalel Academy of Arts & Design and Hebrew University, Jerusalem, and participants of the SIB 2019 are grateful to VTU for their generous hospitality and infrastructure support.

BJP led government has not yet decided on whether to hold the winter session of the Karnataka legislature at the Suvarna Vidhan Soudha Belagavi.

Each year one session, mainly the Winter session is held at the SVS Belagavi.

The decision has to be taken by the cabinet on the next Assembly session. Maybe in the next cabinet meeting, the discussions will take place.

As most of the district administration is involved in the flood relief work, it is thought not to conduct the assembly session at Belagavi.

Also the Govt fears for protests by farmers and the others on the flood relief issue.
