Residents of Bhagyanagar 9th Cross demand civic facilities

The Residents of Bhagyanagar 9th Cross, Scheme No. 12, Sector No. 3, and adjoining areas are leading a miserable life in absence of proper civic amenities for last one decade even when all these plots are BUDA Plots.

Absence of proper drainage system and absence of roads has forced the area people to come out on streets but, as usual they were given false assurances. Unfortunately, grievances of residents is yet to seek attention of Belagavi Corporation Mayor, Ward Corporator & authorities concerned as they kept on informing ward corporator to lay down proper drainage system.bhagya-nagar

There is no drainage facility due to which the residents have given the drainage outlet to a land just in front of their houses, due to which the drainage water is getting dumped and lot of mosquitoes are breeding.

In these areas where drainage and sanitation are poor, water runs over the ground during rainstorms, picks up faeces and contaminates water sources. This contributes significantly to the spread of diseases such as typhoid and cholera, and may increase the likelihood of contracting worm infections from soil contaminated by faeces.
They are facing huge problems and sometimes the pigs in groups attack small children and several such incidents have happened earlier. In rainy season, it will be very difficult for people to drive in this kind of muddy roads.

Inspite of informing the corporator who also happens to be the Mayor of Belagavi several times, no proper action has been taken. The concerned Authorities, the corporator & City Mayor should take strict action and do all the necessary requirements for the ward. Local area Residents feel that though they have BUDA plots and pay taxes in time, there is no proper road and drainage facility.

Bus operators get deadline for proper parking near Ramdev

The residents and commuters of Nehru Nagar had complained about daily traffic jams on the road next to Hotel Ramdev which goes to Gangwadi.

All the bus operators have their last stop there as pick ups have been stopped within the city and each day the buses are parked on the road which causes a lot of impediments to the commuters.

In a meeting held with the operators and Traffic CPI Mushapiri, CPI has given the bus operators a deadline upto Sunday to sort out the matter and asked the not to park the buses on the double road but to park them on the muddy side road.

If this suggestion is not adopted by the operators strict action would be initiated, CPI said.

Trees of Belgaum- Nirgundi

by Swatee Jog
Belagaum is blessed with doctors who are known for administering effective medicines that don’t bore a hole in your pocket while treating your problem. One among them is Dr. Ashok Sakhdev whom I consulted for my chronic back ache. Along with other oil formulations, he also suggested that I use the paste of the Nirgundi leaves or boil the leaves in water and use a hot press with it.

nirgundiThe search for Nirgundi ended right in my front –yard which had this tree, long neglected and somehow devoid of any glamour. Of late, numerous of my students have benefited from its leaves to cure, what else, back ache! Adding a few leaves of this tree to hot water in a bucket/ tub and dipping your feet in it alleviates pain in the feet.

I helped some students for a while, but then they searched and found this tree in the Fort area. It can be found across Belgaum, hiding among other trees or standing un-noticed. When discussed, many people told me that they’ve been using these leaves to store large quantities of grain and garlic at home. It’s botanical name is Vitex negundo, and is commonly known as the five-leaved chaste tree or Sindhuvar in Sanskrit, Bile Nekki Gida in Kannada and Nirgundi in Marathi and Hindi. Laboratory studies have shown that chemicals isolated from the plant have potential anti- inflammatoryantibacterialantifungal and analgesic activities. No wonder it has been used by many to gain relief from pain. If you know the location of this tree/shrub, do let us know so that it can help us trace.

Agony? Ecstasy?

by Sameer Majli
Greetings from your very own Belagavi, aka Belgaum, erstwhile Venugram. A mixed set of emotions run through the mind as i share this piece of expression with you.

I once was a sparsely populated town with dwellings largely located around my core. The population continued to expand as more souls took shape to greet the blue skies and people from far off places either moved towards easier lifestyles or returned to the comfort of this humble abode. Soon the number of dwelling grew to accommodate the settlements and the outskirts almost grew on me to enable the transition from a peaceful town to a relatively expansive city. Although i am no compare to my seemingly more glamorous and lucrative cousins, i still have more than my fill of the populace. As the numbers grew, so did the demands for easier transit and in a seemingly inevitable manner, there arose a need for good old paths to be replaced by wider travel spaces.

Khanapur Road widening at RPD Corner
Khanapur Road widening at RPD Corner
Khanapur Road widening at RPD Corner
Khanapur Road widening at RPD Corner

The process of infrastructural expansion has been on to accommodate the needs of my residents and today marks one more bull dozing operation to facilitate human convenience. Good or bad, there will always be two sides to the coin but in a sense, i have learnt to embrace it as what I consider inevitable.

While the developmental officers recently, formally announced the commencement of the demolishing operations, I am given to understand that the residents and establishments had been given enough prior notice. While my heart goes out to those that bear the brunt of the deed, I also hope and pray that they will be compensated adequately for the apparent transgressuon.

As the powerful machines whirred across the road to make their first cruel cut into structures that once lined both sides of the road in question, the cries of agony from the seemingly inanimate blocks of cement and steel joined the annals of history.

I am being told that it is the need of the hour since the traffic bottlenecks were getting to be a pain and also enhancing the probability of major and minor mishaps to pedestrians and motorists alike. All said and done, certain parts of me, even those that had a history dating to pre-independance times have been wiped away from the face of this planet.

The aftermath is something that i am really concerned about. As long as the best interests of those displaced do not really affect their livelihood, I guess I have to say its fine. However, what i really will miss is the delicate pieces of lovely architecture, the houses with their gardens and most of all, the scores of trees that have been sacrificed. Another matter of concern is that not that the clearing is done, will they have enough sense to lay good roads with extreme urgency in order to justify the cause. Will it be another case of development delayed, only time will tell.

For me its a time for both Agony and Ecstasy. Agony for my children who will now have to begin from scratch if they havent already provided for alternatives and Ecstasy over the prospect that I may now just look as plush and pompous as my other cousins. As the dust settles on the mangled remains and the deeds of the day, I pray that this is just the beginning of better planning and commitment to deeds done, apparently in the best interests of my dear Belgaumites.

Gated communities is the next in thing – Satish Giri, Lotus County

AAB caught up with Mr.Satish Giri, Managing Director of Lotus Landmarks India Pvt. Ltd and spoke to him and tried to know more about their project.lotus belgaum

How has been the journey of Lotus County so far in Belagavi?

Satish Giri —– >Lotus County being a unique concept of gated community with emphasis on security and comfort of the residents was looked at with very high expectations in the town. Since the launch of the project there was a tremendous curiosity and hope from the project. We lived up to those expectations and have delivered the best concept. Our Villas are ready and occupied. First tower is going in possession soon. Such a large project of 10 Acres right in the heart of town with direct 80 Ft. road approach and connectivity to all major centers of town makes Lotus County the most suitable option for high end lifestyle. As a validation of this, CRISIL – World’s most trusted real estate rating agency has awarded Lotus county 5 Star rating. Lotus County is the only project in entire north Karnataka with 5 star rating from CRISIL. Entire Phase-I is sold out before possession. We are honored by the trust and love shown by Belgaumites towards us. We are extremely thankful to the city of Belagavi and promise to deliver far above their expectations from us.

What Makes Lotus County different?

Satish Giri —– >Unique Concept of a single largest gated community of 10 Acres, with very high level of security and safety for residents along with all lifestyle amenities as well as necessities like grocery store, laundry, cafe, pharmacy and medical center right in the project itself makes Lotus County the only project of town which promises a true gated community.
Above this very thoughtful planning with buildings rising to 14 floors leaving major portion of land open for gardens gives the residents best homes. Being tall and slender buildings most of the apartments have ventilation from all four sides. Every home is designed with complete care keeping in mind space utilization, ventilation, large windows, balconies overlooking a lush green surrounding and moreover are fully Vaastu Compliant.

What is current status of the Project?

Satish Giri —– >Phase-I is nearing completion with few villas already given possession. Phase-I will be handed over by this Diwali. With all the infrastructure facilities like water, drainage, storm water lines already in place Lotus County is ready to welcome the Phase-I home buyers. Few of the main amenities Swimming Pool, Central Garden, Open Function area with stage, Gazebo sittings are completely ready.

What are the special features of Lotus County?

Satish Giri —– >Compatibility to Senior Citizens and the differently able is a priority at County. Lotus cares for the elderly and the differently able and we have ensured friendly features for them like ramps and railings at all entry/exit points for easier accessibility, Panic alarm button, Wheel Chair availability at every apartment, Specially Designed bathrooms with railings for support, Doctor on call, preliminary medical centre on site, Ambulance, Meditation and Yoga hall etc. Security is the top priority at county and accordingly we have a multi level security system comprising only one entry/exit point with 24*7 security and CCTV surveillance, ID cards for all, restricted entry for salesman and individual security guards at entrance lobby. All units at Lotus County are interconnected by intercom with Video door phone provided in all homes along with double bolted main door. Lotus County is the first project in entire North Karnataka to offer double level car Parking in the form of podium and complete Vaastu compliant homes.

Any Comments on AAB?

Satish Giri —– >AAB is a unique and impartial portal. It truly represents the city and is the only blood line connecting the citizens of town who are abroad to their home town. All the Belgaumites who are abroad or traveling outside remain in touch with their home town via AAB. AAB’s journalism is also of very high standards with up to date coverage of each and every significant event. Plus it represents the citizens very impartially without succumbing to pressure from any corner.
