No respite from Fuel Crisis

Citizens have been facing a fuel crisis since Sunday, and day after the situation is worsening. Even today huge lines were seen at petrol pumps. Panic buying is again a cause of worry and some petrol pumps are capping the supply to Rs.100 or 200.

There was a meeting held with the DC and the citizens where the DC said the Oil depot officers have not acted promptly and hence this chaos has occurred. The officers first said the shortage was due to MRPL shutdown but MRPL in a statement has denied any delay in supplies.

In the scorching sun people are going from Pump to pump in search of petrol.

We are hearing from Monday that, fuel supply would be better in the coming days, but nothing really has changed on the ground.

Adam Realty to expand to Goa, Hubli and Kolhapur

AAB caught up with management team of ADAM Realty (www.adampartners.com), the developers of Bella Vista, Belgaum’s premier housing community, specifically with Raj Bhandari – ADAM’s founder and MD, Parag Saraiya – Director , and Glenn Bond – Construction Head, to understand the journey ADAM Realty and Bella Vista has taken during last 4 years.adam

AAB: Can you take us through the journey of Adam Realty in Belgaum so far?

Raj Bhandari: ADAM started with a single vision “To provide international quality residences in Tier II-III markets”. Given our team’s experience building world-class projects, I was confident that we can do the same in Belgaum. But we needed the right location. And we found that in Nanawadi – a 9 acre site barely 1.5 km away from Railway station, yet literally tucked in all sides by greenery and “beautiful views” ( “Bella Vista’ in Spanish, and thus the name of our project). The best part is that even as the city grows, this site will remain green and peaceful. This is almost never the case. In fact, the dozens of bird species that visit Bella Vista today will continue to do so. We have not only taken all utilities including electrical wires underground but are also putting in place a lush landscape of trees, flowers, and water bodies.

Parag Saraiya: Our outstanding team has so far delivered nearly 50,000 SF. Families living there, some for nearly 2 years now tell us that these are some of the finest homes anywhere. This of course is satisfying. We will be delivering close to 2 Lac SF this year representing nearly 100 apartments of 850 SF to 4000 SF. An additional 100 flats and bungalows will be delivered over the next three years.adam1

AAB: What makes ADAM homes different? Please give us some specifics.

Raj Bhandari: It is many things. First and foremost is the location as described above. Then we take a lot of effort with our designs. Our in-house architects and engineers work closely with our outside architects and consultants for months at end before we finalize them. Then we designed out structures to better withstand an earthquake, which substantially adds to the cost and complexity, but given that Belgaum is in a high risk zone 3 we think this is important. I am not sure if this is done in all buildings. We have also used post-tension technology to install some slabs. This is new to India, but our engineers have experience with them in the United States.

Then we source some of the finest materials, a lot of which was never before used in Belgaum. Some was not even available in India. We also had to import tools and train our labor to use new tools and methods. This was probably the hardest part.

But a nice house is much more than the location, design and technology. Club Bella (Club House at Bella Vista) and amenities will provide in excess of 25,000 SF of swimming pool, gymnasium, exercise and yoga room, game rooms, children’s playground, outdoor play areas, convenience store, business center and more. We also plan “Lifestyle Events” for all age groups that allow home owners to participate in arts, sports, travel, charitable, social and business activities and networking.

We recently created “ADAM Interiors” specifically to provide full interior design and services to our residents. In doing so, we are again bringing new designs, materials and technology never seen before in Belgaum, using a host of vendors from Belgaum and outside as well as exclusive dealership with many suppliers. Best of all, residents can have these interiors in place as their homes get completed, which saves a lot of time and money and provides better quality compared to the traditional method of doing interiors after the home is built.

We also have started “ADAM Property Management”. This is to provide full property management services that not only include security and infrastructure maintenance of Bella Vista but also services to individual homes including repairs, cleaning, and rental management. Our senior team has experience managing some of the finest projects including 5-star hotels.

We are also launching Bella Vista in Goa, Hubli and Kolhapur. All will have similar characteristics as the one in Belgaum – outstanding location, excellent designs, state-of-the art materials and infrastructure, and premier management and homeowner services. All Bella Vista homeowners will be able to use the Clubs and amenities at other Bella Vistas, giving them a home away from home when they travel.

So you can see that the entire home-building and home-living experience we are creating is very different than the traditional way, not just in Belgaum, but in India. For many busy families as well as NRIs who will be staying at Bella Vista, this is a world of a difference.

AAB: Any comments on AAB?

Raj Bhandari: As an NRI I could say that AllAboutBelgaum is a very timely and relevant source of latest news and events, much of which is not covered or accessible elsewhere. I can see why the followers of AAB has grown over the years. I also appreciate the speed with which AAB has adapted to new technology platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Apps. AAB is our eyes and ears in Belgaum and I wish team AAB the very best. Belgaum really needs platform like AAB.

I am Belagavi aka Belgaum aka Belgaum

by Sameer Majli

This is my Story, Our Story, maybe the Story of our World

It Starts:

Greetings to those who have ventured to take time off to sneak a peek at my first effort to speak out. I was a town and am now a city but that just doesn’t change the fact that grammarians would still consider me an inanimate entity. Thanks again because after all, in the midst of a busy life, who would really find time to listen to the words that are expressions of a simple entity like me.

Morning in Belagavi
Photo :Arun Yallurkar

I am Belagavi…they just gave me this name. Some call me Belgaum and some Belgao. Historically I was known as Venugram although the ‘Venu’ or Bamboo from which I got my name, is now largely diminished. But then, What’s in a name!! I still am what I have been, a trusted residence for all those that choose to make me their place to reside. From humble beginnings as a quiet little town to the present day city bustling with life, maybe I have come a long way but it is still the good old me with the best intentions to make life of a living for my inhabitants.

One request to the readers, one plea right at the beginning of this little effort of mine. Do pardon my explicitness and truthful expression. I am just trying to make the best of this opportunity that I have provided for myself. Its not often that I get to tell the tale and that too, in the way I want it to be told. This is not a script of compliant and the intention is not to hurt the feelings of the lovely humans who have made me home (it would be totally uncourteous if I did so) but then I am just trying to make the best use of this canvas to paint the picture the way I see it. If in this attempt, you do find my writing to be a bit the way you would like to put it, then do let me know.

Photo by Shivani Khapre: A scene near Belgaum
Photo by Shivani Khapre: A scene near Belgaum

Mother Nature has been kind enough to bestow upon me a perfect balance of her elements and hence despite my location being in proximity to the warmer zones on the planet I seem to pack a near perfect weather. My moderateness makes me a good habitat and I do strive hard to live up to my reputation despite the ravages of the so-called advancements of modern times. The globe overall has climbed a few degrees in terms of the Mercury thread and so have I but I do manage to stay a touch below on the Celsius scale as compared to my kith and kin around. I used to be a poor man’s hill station and with time the fans and air conditioners have made their presence, yet, I believe that I am better off than other larger cities around me and have learnt to find solace in this observation. Just like my human occupants, I have learnt to measure my excellence in relativity.

I do like to join the elders in town often reminisce my old glory when everything was predictable; all the seasons happened in time and the overlap amongst them was minimal. Now with the vegetation around being compromised to make way for human settlements, industry and paths for humans to travel around, the transformation is quite dramatic and I often end up confused as to what season I am living in. The Rain Gods make their presence more often than necessary, apart from their usual times and the thunder they pack has also increased. Not so pleasing for the crop and the fruits who in the midst of their struggle to provide for human existence have to bear the brunt of these irregularities but then, we are all learning to take things in a stride. After all, we are just providing for this wonderful being “The Homo Sapien” who has chosen to bend and break the norms of nature for the sake of convenience; after all, he/she is supposedly a self assumed “Supreme Being”.diwali-belgaum

This is just the beginning of my story or rather our story and I dedicate it to all of you who would opt to lend an ear to my sincere attempt at providing a vent to the thoughts that have been on my mind for a real long time. While I gather my thoughts and find words that would best express my feelings and concerns, I hope you have a wonderful time, a wonderful life and a wonderful reading experience.
