No parking next to RLS college

The police taking a strict note of parking of vehicles on roads, have put up barricades on the road next to RLS college (road opposite Hotel Pavan).

All students of RLS used to park their vehicles on this road in a haphazard manner which was causing a lot of hindrances to flow of traffic.

Now all the students were seeing parking vehicles on College road which is again a No parking Zone to a major extent.

The colleges must take care of allowing parking to be done within their premises. Even at RPD college road the situation is the same.

The Footpath is for use of pedestrians but as one can see the two Wheelers have occupied the entire space of the footpath. Police department was to issue notices to all colleges which have restricted the parking of vehicles in the college premises.

It is a welcome step form the authorities but at the same time students will face a hard time searching a place to park their vehicle.

Toddy cat in a rat trap

A rat trap had a strange guest trapped in it at Kalkhamb village. The village has been rattled with Rat menace and hence Jayant Patil had placed a rat trap to catch the rats.

But to his surprise he saw a strange cat trapped in it.

He contacted the Forest officials and the forest officials confirmed it to be an Asian Palm Civet. Normally these cats are found near coconut plantations, the cat was later released by the officials.

LEAD PRAYANA-2015 kicks off

The Kickoff Ceremony of the LEAD PRAYANA-2015 by Deshpande Foundation in Collaboration with Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi was held on 24th January 2014 at 10.30am at Senate Hall, “Jnana Sangama”, VTU Belagavi.

The event was kicked off in the presence of and 106 Lead Prayanies-2015.

Cash on delivery of train tickets

Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC) is now starting the cash-on-delivery (CoD) system for train tickets.

The scheme has been launched on pilot basis in 200 cities. Passengers from seven cities in Karnataka – Belagavi, Dharwad, Kalburgi, Hubballi, Manipal, Tumakuru and Udupi – can avail this option. 

One has to just book the ticket online and payments can be made at the time of delivery of tickets. Booked tickets will be delivered within five days.

Customers can book a ticket five days prior to commencement of journey. While Rs 40 will be charged for the delivery of each sleeper class ticket, Rs 60 will be charged for an AC class ticket.

Marathi Natya Sammelan begins on a grand note

The 95th Akhil Bharteeya Natya Sammelan (Marathi theatre convention) began on a grand note with the Natya Dindi (procession) which began from Margai temple Bhandur galli and culminated at CpEd grounds the main venue of the Event.

Faiyazz Sheikh, in her presidential speech, expressed concern over loosing charm of theatre especially children’s theatre while addressing the gathering.
Former union Minister Sharad Pawar, also spoke on the occasion.

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadanvis arrived in the city at about 7 pm and he too will participate in the events.

Hundreds of actors gathered for the event and citizens were enthralled to see them in person like Mohan Aghashe, Alka Kubal, Vandana Gupte, Pushkar Shotri to name a few.

The award ceremony was hosted by Mr. Ajay Suman Shukla (Functional Head-LEAD) and awards were presented by Mr. Kailash Satyarthi (Noble Peace Prize winner, 2014) and Mr. Narayan Murthy (Founder of Infosys).

The Leaders who got the “BEST LEADer Award” were:

1. LEADer Yuvraj from VSM Institue of Technology, Nipani has designed a prototype to reduce smoke which helps in the circulation of good air in the room. People, who visited his home, got to know about it and requested Yuvraj to install in their houses too. He has received 48 orders for the prototype out of which 9 have already installed. He is very active LEader and has completed more than 13 projects.

2. LEADer Niranjan from AITM Belgaum has designed a device which increases the bike mileage by 30% with the help of the water. It also increases the pickup of the bike. He has tried the device with the Honda Activa. It saves Rs.15, 000 a year. The device is now being used on continuous basis to one vehicle and is in process of installing it into several devices.

It has initiated radium project for railway gate and bullock cart. The Album Winds of Samsara is an album of Ricky Kej and Wouter Kellerman has been won the Grammy awards 2015 under the New Age music category, and news on AAB is because Keerthy Narayan, from Belagavi was part of the team.

Keerthy Narayan’s played keyboard and also made music arrangements for the album “Winds of Samsara”.

Administration gears up to combat HINI

One H1N1 positive patient was diagnosed in Nippani town recently, who is recovering now has made the District administration to gear up its operations to fight the virus.

District administration has come into action for preventing the spread of H1N1 virus and being taken different precautionary measured in this regard. District administration has instructed health officials to open separate wards at each taluk and district hospitals for H1N1 patients and make adequate storage of required drugs. DC N Jayaram has instructed health department to open control room at each taluk and district level government hospitals. He also asked to take extensive awareness programmes on H1N1.
Health department has turned very cautious and began taking swabs of the doubtful patients suffering from severe cough and head ache, fever along with omitting and loose motion. Swabs are sent to the Manipal Hospital for testing and it required minimum two days to get report.

Only one Aadhar centre for Belagavi? Why

Citizens are being made to wait for hours together for the Aadhar card in Belagavi as only one centre is operational at the Home Guards office in Vishveshwaraya Nagar Belagavi.

The Aadhaar card centres need to open at 8 AM but the officers incharge are never on time and sometimes come even at 11.

People queue up from 6am to get the forms but due to agent raj, not all get forms.
A senior citizen who wanted the Aadhar card made said we have no other option but stand in the queue from 8 AM and get our work done. Also some agents have sprouted and collect fees for the form which is free.

Earlier there were many Aadhar card centres but as only one centre is operational all the citizens are forced to go there and have to face lot of inconveniences.

It seems no one is interested in solving the issues. The Aam Aadmi is treated worse than an animal. Isn’t the District administration in-charge to look into this matter and make it easy for citizens to get the Aadhar card.
The people will have to unite and shout and hope the voice falls on ears which can act.

Police detain VHP leader in Belagavi

Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Gopal Bhat was taken into custody from Shahstri Nagar where he was meeting other members of the VHP.

Bengaluru police led by ACP Suresh led the team who took Bhat into custody, in connection to allegedly airing video footages of VHP head Praveen Togadia during recent Virat Hindu Convention in Bengaluru despite ban.

First it was told that Bhat would be taken to a local police station but when the jeep made its route towards the Highway, the activists stopped the police jeep near Ashoka circle and forced the police officers to produce the arrest warrant which the police did not have. There was a raasta roko for an hour.

This led to verbal clashes and eventually Gopal Bhat was brought to the police commissioner’s office where BJP MP Surehs Angadi joined the activists.

At the commissioner’s office there were some heated exchanges and Angadi was asking as to how can Bengaluru police arrest someone without knowledge to the local police. S Ravi later said that a FIR was filed against Bhat in Bengaluru and police had come here for inquiry and Bhat was released from there after the inquiry.

Shops on Drain near St.Mary’s school collapse – one trapped in debris

About 4-5 Shops on Nala(Storm water drain) near St Mary’s on Shivaji road collapsed at about 1.45 am on Thrusday. One person was injured and one is feared to be still trapped in the debris.

Sources say the weakening of the SLAB on the storm water drain might have caused the shops to collapse.

No flights from March 1 from Belagavi

There would be no take offs from Belagavi (Sambra) airport from March 1 as Spicejet has declared that it would starts its operations from Hubballi from the same date and Belagavi airport would be closed for runway expansion works.

SpiceJet had to stop its flight services from Hubballi airport in August 2014 as the runway expansion and strengthening work was taken up by the Airports Authority of India. Passengers were forced to travel to Belagavi to catch flights to Mumbai and Bengaluru.
Now commuters from Belagavi will be forced to travel to Hubballi to catch flights to Mumbai and Bengaluru.
No official word on when the runway expansion work will end has been officially announced yet.

One dead 3 injured in Shop collapse in Belagavi

About 6 shops built on Drain collapsed in Belagavi

About 6 Shops on Nala(Storm water drain) near St Mary’s on Shivaji road collapsed at about 1.45 am on Thrusday. One person was killed and 3 injured. The shops were built by the City corporation but the shop owners had modified the structure which might have caused the collapse experts feel.

The hotel Mirchi Cola is one amongst the shops which has collapsed. The Shops were built on a storm water drain and even a multi storey structure was built on the slab of the drain which collapsed today.

The shops built on 3000 sq feet were built in 2006. The deceased a worker of the hotel who had come out of the hotel went back to take his belongings and got trapped. The hotel had made a make shift tin roof shed as a restaurant.

All shops on the Nala to be demolished

After the horrific incident of the commercial complex collapse which took one life this morning, the City corporation gave the remaining shop owners 4 hours to vacate the premises and take away on their belongings. 

The incident occurred on Shivaji Road, near Amba Bhavan. Vinayak Shivaji Patkar (42) native of Sawantwadi was killed and injured identified as Pandurang Kamble (32) of Umagao village in Chandgad taluk, Srikant Kamble (35) of Halakarni village and Babu Samboche (58) of Sadashiv Nagar.

The city corporation had constructed this complex with 34 shops upon storm water drain in 1984 and the resettled the shop owners whose shops were removed in the road widening near central bus stand. The complex also housed an anganwadi school and Urdu government primary school.

Half of the shops were demolished and the rest would demolished by tomorrow morning.

Many shop owners illegally built first floor themselves without permission and carrying commercial business. The lease of the shops had expired in 1994 and a few in 2008, which was not renewed.

Currently the road from GPO to Patil Galli is blocked due to CD work and these shops are on the same nala just next to it.
