On Gandhi Jayanti, the Barricades placed at the First gate were removed so that the VIPs can visit Veer Soudha and attend the program there.

Deputy Commissioner S B Bommanhalli and many other officers and dignitaries were present for the function at the Veer Soudha.

But the common man said when they complained that the barricades be removed the traffic police said it will create chaos and how is that when VIPs visit it does not create any chaos.
Why this special treatment for VIP, after all, they are public servants.

If the Police feel putting of barricades has eased the flow of traffic then why were the barricades removed?
The VIPs who spend the diesel paid by the public only can travel 500 meters more as the common man does and then go to the desired place.

The barricades blocking traffic towards Mandoli Roadbarri

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said people must also move away from the mindset of VIP culture.

The beacons might have gone but the special treatment accorded to the VIP must also be shunned.

Increase in number of injuries due to Manja – Kite string

Injuries of kite flying activity are commonly sustained by kite-flyers, kite-runners, riders of two wheelers and pedestrians. Injuries related to flying kites can be indirect like falls from a height while flying kites to direct injuries by “the Killer Kite Manja”.
“Manja” is the fine string attached to the kite and it is made more lethal by coating it with powdered glass or other chemicals so that one can cut down the opponent’s kite more easily.

The “Manja” or thread attached to the kite is the major cause of direct kite injuries its edges being sharpened by ground glass. The loose thread may get entangled to the neck of a high-speed motorist and cause serious cut throat like injuries.

In 2018 Student from Manipur succumbs to injury made by Manja used for kite flying. This year as well there have been instances of injuries.
Fingers of a doctor were cut as he tried to remove the manja entangled on his neck. He is safe but his fingers have been serious injuries to the fingers.

manjaChinese manja used by millions for kite fighting has resulted in hundreds of human and bird death. In addition, it is non-biodegradable, that is, it does not get decomposed and sustains in the environment for a long time. Even after the festivities are over, lumps of these dangerous threads (manja) remain, effectively entangling and killing innocent birds.

This kind of string has a very high tensile strength, posing a threat to people who come into contact with it at a certain amount of force. Besides, the presence of glass particles and metal particles gives the string a high level of conductivity and could cause electrocution.

Over the years, more than a dozen people and thousands of birds have died or suffered severe injuries caused by Chinese manja.

This manja called as Chinese manja is mostly made in India only now but it is called Chinese manja.

The authorities must look into this seriously and ban such items.

The Unique Dasara Festival of Shahapur Belagavi

$

shahapur rathBelagavi is abode to quite a few deities, with the Shahapur Vitthaldev Galli being the Lords’ favourite. This street is home to Mahadev, Krishna, Vitthal, Balaji, Venkateshwara as also Hanuman ( within the precincts of the Vithoba temple). Built in stone, decked by the two Dwarpals( Jai- Vijay) painted on its façade is the old temple of Lord Venkateshwara which is 300 years old.

The temple was restored by the Late Srinivasrao Swamirao Naik of Shahapur in 1922. The temple used to receive a grant of Rs. 150 every year from the first Adil Shah of Bijapur and the same continued even during the reign of the Bombay Presidency.

The temple has a spacious Mantap, followed by an inner area separated by an intricately carved ornate wooden arch. This then leads to the sanctum sanctorum ( Garbhagruha) where the idol of Lord Venkateshwar stands tall. The temple is known for its unique Navaratri festival which is celebrated on the lines of the one at Tirumala in Tirupati. Starting from the first day of navaratri, a palanquin of the Lord is ceremoniously carried within the temple for 2 days and then the third day, the elaborate ‘Vaahan’ is brought out. It carries the Utsav murtis which are carried by devotees on a special wooden palanquin, flaunted by the temple flags on both sides. Tiny kids hold and ring the gong with a wooden hammer. The ‘Vaahans’ or the vehicles of the Lord include the Tiger, Hanuman, Eagle, Peacock, Elephant and Horse. The ‘Vaahan’ moves through the key streets of Shahapur – Vitthaldev Galli, Acharya Galli, Saraf Galli, Dane Galli, Kacheri galli and back to the temple. The Basavaneppa Band is a regular fixture for this ceremony which involves the third generation of the band’s owners.

The last day of Navaratri is special, in that the temple’s wooden chariot is drawn through the streets of Shahapur, tugged by devotees all along. The carved wooden chariot is a beautiful piece of craftsmanship with two huge wheels, a rudder and two thick long ropes. The chariot used to be much taller, but has since been reduced in size keeping in view the electric wires overhead. Thousands of devotees visit the temple during the nine days and the last days witnesses the massive crowd of devotees.

Shahapur Venkateshwara
Shahapur Venkateshwara

The Chariot carries the Lord’s idols that are offered Aratis and coconuts as offerings at almost every household. Devotees feel blessed that the Lord has come out to offer them a glimpse and bless them. The Naik family of Shahapur has been involved in the activities of the temple and their fourth generation has enthusiastically taken up the mantle now. The temple has been video-graphed by numerous devotees including foreign tourists.

Udyambag needs more affection from Govt Authorities

$

The smart city Belagavi officials it appears has forgotten about industrial estates in Udyambag. Not even one single project seems to have been planned or executed to make industrial areas smart and hence the infrastructure will become dumber by the day as no government organizations are making any effort in improving the facilities for industries in Udyambag.

There are no recreation facilities like a garden etc or even basic facilities like toilets. Most roads in Udyambag have more potholes than road. Most of the roads don’t have street lights and there are so many industries employing women coming from far off places.

A lot of raw materials and finished goods are transported from and to from various industries in Udyambag industrial estates and vehicles and the goods that they carry are getting damaged.

Most industrial units don’t have piped water supply. There is no proper drainage system in most parts of Udyambag and nallas are not properly maintained with the result that whenever it rains heavily water enters the industrial buildings and creates a huge loss of raw and finished materials.
The nalla beside BEMCO has been clogged with rubble dumped over a period of time as it has become a no man’s land. There is not even one garden in the whole of industrial estates in Udyambag which should be done as part of smart city Belagavi.

Most of the industrial enterprises in Udyambag pay their property tax to the municipal corporation of Belagavi regularly but not even one basic service is provided properly by the corporation to the various industrial estate of Udyambag Belagavi.

GST varying from 5 to 28% is remitted by industry which is shared by state and central government equally. The revenue from Belagavi is second only to Bangalore. Huge remittances are made to the excise department by the industries in Belagavi.
In spite of so much taxes being paid periodically by the industrialists of Udyambag, they are the most neglected by the political and bureaucracy alike.

udyambagudyambagA lot of irregular things are happening like schools and colleges have come up in the industrial estate in Udyambag. A lot of entrepreneurs are unable to take a loan from KSFC because KIADB has not renewed the lease agreement with BEMCIEL.

Karnataka state financial corporation has been formed to help entrepreneur s and industrialists by giving them financial assistance with low-interest rates of about 4 % onwards.

Entrepreneurs are made to run from pillar to post from all government departments like a corporation, BUDA, pollution board etc for building permission which may take several months. Entrepreneurs are harassed whenever government schemes are to be availed like subsidies, exemption from taxes, etc.

udyambagAll in all industrialists in Udyambag are finding it very difficult to manage their day to day affairs because of the lackadaisical attitude of bureaucracy and politicians alike thereby hampering growth and employment potential to citizens of smart city Belagavi which has 7 engineering colleges and 2 medical colleges and numerous other colleges like polytechnics, science, commerce etc which offer abundance talent most of which gets translocated elsewhere.

City-based Abhinav Commerce Class launches E-Learning initiative

$

E-learning enables one to quickly create and communicate new ideas and concepts and gives the students the freedom to learn at their own convenience & at a pace that is right for them. E-learning shouldn’t be a casual joy ride on a Sunday afternoon with the cruise control engaged. The sole purpose of e-learning is to teach or learn. E-learning is self-directed, allowing students to choose content & tools appropriately to their differing interests, needs & skill levels.

Initiated in the year 1997-1998, Abhinav Commerce Classes was built on an optimist view to provide high standard education and now has ventured into the E-Learning with its E-Classroom.

Speaking to AAB, Sagar Patnekar of Abhinav Commerce Class said this is a new concept where all the Videos are stored online and offline as well which can be accessed without the Internet. With over 200 + Videos covering the entire range of subjects in the Commerce stream with chapter wise coverage of the syllabus for PUC 1 and 2, B Com, BBA and also Accounting and Statistics for the Non-Commerce background students.

Technology can make a big impact in making learning more engaging for students. The use of technology in education introduces a whole new dimension to the way we learn and are taught and these series of videos are just one avenue we have launched added Sagar.

The Initiative has taken more than 2 years and today the same has been launched and encapsulates 7+ courses | 12+ subjects | 100+ chapters | 500+ videos.

Sagar further added, after a lot of learning on how to make videos it took us almost two years to come at this state and launch the same. All the shooting, editing has been done locally. And these videos can be accessed by anyone after paying the fees which will make it accessible to the rural areas as well which may not have access to good and very qualified teaching staff.

I just hope with more and more use of smartphones this initiative will help the students learn and get their doubts clarified.

They have launched an Android App as well- Abhinav Classes – The Learning App or one can visit their website http://abhinavclasses.in for further details.

Dasara in Belagavi and its uniqueness

The Belagavi Dasara has some elysian history behind it. It may not be as grand as the Mysore Dasara but in its own style it’s different and one of its kind.

Simmolanghan at Vidya Nikekatan Ground near Union Gymkahana (File Photo)

Simolanghan:

The Simolanghan (crossing the border) happens at the Vidya Niketan grounds near St.Xaviers school. People from all lifestyles from young to old gather there for a yearly fair where the leaves of Aapti tree are looted on the pretext of it symbolizing Gold. The Patil of Belagavi does the Puja and then the various Palkhi’s of the Gods come to the venue like the Venkatramna temple, Maruti Temple, Jotiba temple and the Aapte tree leaves are looted and then exchanged with each other as gold.

Camp Dasara:

Another diverse part of the celebration is Camp Dasara; it has a different look altogether. K T Pujari and sons started this Utsav in 1901. There are 5 Devi chariots that are taken out in a procession which also ends on the same grounds above. Marriama Devi of K T Pujari & sons, Muthu Mariamma from Madras BHT area, Kunti Devi from the fish market, Mariama from old Telugu colony. These 5 are supposed to be sisters. A Procession is taken out in the evenings of the 5 chariots and thousands of people throng the High Street to get a glimpse of the same. Dance, music, people wearing mascots like tiger, lion are another attraction.

Shahpur Dasara:

Belgaum Shahpur Rathotsav
Shahpur Rathotsav

Shahpur Rathotsav

Another big highlight for the Shahpur area is the Rathotsav of the Venkateshwara Temple at Vitthaldev Galli. It is done exactly like the one at Tirupati.

Prior to Dasara, there is a Vaahanaotsav for 8 days with separate vaahana ( Elephant,

Lion, Garuda, Maruti, Peacock, Horse, etc.) every day and a nice procession is taken out. Dasara has a huge Rathotsav that moves throughout Shahapur. Similar Rathotsav is done for the Venkateshwar temple near Basavan Galli- Bhave chowk corner.

The Shahapur temple belongs to the Naik family and the Utsav has been done for more than 200 years. The temple used to get grants from the Nizam of Bijapur until independence.

Happy Dasara to all!

Paver Bhagya for Bapat Galli Car Parking

The one and only official (working) car Parking in the heart of the City Bapat Galli Car Parking managed by the City Corporation which was in dire state, will now be pavered.

Yes! At last, its Paver Bhagya if we may so call it, as the tar had been washed away and there were some huge potholes in the car park itself.

Now many would say, Hey there was to be a multi-level car park here Right? Oh yes it was, which was envisaged 13 years ago but could not be started due to various reasons.

In 2017 a contract was awarded to Bell Fluid Mumbai but it backed out of the contract for the 4.7 crores for the Hydraulic System Multi-Level Car Parking system.

bapat-gali-car-parkIn 2018 another modified plan was made but that too was scrapped and since then the only car parking was in a dire state.

Now with the Pavering hopefully the car owners will have some ease in parking and also that a few more cars would fit in as some space is gone as a public toilet was constructed.

The contract is been given to NS Chougule and would be completed in 8 days and until then the said parking would be closed partially.

The Union Government earlier had refused to regularise the grant of forest land to Rani Channamma University (RCU) and hence the RCU has now been forced to move out of its present location at Bhutramanhatti next to NH 4.

The Centrally-appointed Forest Advisory Committee (FAC) had pulled up the State government for ‘converting’ a reserve forest to gomala (Gomala lands or Gobhumi are pasture lands set apart in a village for grazing purposes)land in Belagavi.
The recommendations by the 7-member FAC, which comprises officials from Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Ministry of Agriculture, and ecologists, was delivered during an application by the State government for permission to divert nearly 178.35 acre of forest land for establishment of Rani Channamma University at Bhutaramanahatti village.

The State government sanctioned forest land to the off-site campus of the university in 1990. But the Union government has refused to regularise the transfer.

rcuIn 2018, the Centre issued an ultimatum to the State government to shift the campus outside the forest area.

At the university’s convocation in 2018, then vice-chancellor Shivanand Hosmani regretted that he could not get the Centre’s approval for the land grant.

New vice-chancellor M. Ramachandra Gowda V-C has requested the grant of 207 acres and 16 guntas of land to the university.

DC Bommanahalli has instructed officials to inspect the proposed sites in Bagewadi and Halagimaradi villages in Belagavi taluk which has 127 acres and 7 guntas of government, and 80 acres and nine guntas of private land.
