UDAN 3.0 results will be announced on 25/01/2019 at 5 PM in presence of Hon’ble Minister, Civil Aviation in New Delhi.

The government has received bids for 111 proposals which include operations of seaplanes in the third round of auction for the regional air connectivity UDAN 3 scheme from 15 airlines.

With regards to Belagavi 17 routes have got Financial Bids but Bengaluru, Mumbai,  and Chennai are missing from the list which is disheartening.

Under the scheme, 50 percent seats in aeroplanes are offered at concessional rates to passengers.
In case of these seats remaining vacant, the Centre and the respective state offer subsidy in the form of Value Gap Funding (VGF) to the airline company to compensate for the loss.
As part of this scheme, no other airline is allowed to operate that particular route, thus protecting the business interest of the operating company.
The VGF in tickets is shared by the Centre (80 per cent) and the state (20 per cent).

The financial bid received for 17 routes –

Belagavi to Surat

UDAN 3 declared when will it actually take off?

$

After a lot of wait, the routes allotted under UDAN 3.0 were announced on January 25, 2019, and each city which got connections were halcyon with the announcement.

So were the citizens of Belagavi which has one of the oldest airports in the country established in 1942 by the Royal Air Force.

Belagavi got as many as 13 connections under UDAN, by 5 operators namely Ghodawat Star Air, Turbo Megha (Tru Jet), InterGlobe (Indigo), Spice Jet, and Alliance Air.

Belagavi to Hyderabad, Tirupati, Mumbai, Pune, Surat, Kadapa, Mysuru, Indore, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Nasik and Nagpur routes have been announced but the big Question is when will the flight services commence?

The way forward from here will be that Ministry of Civil Aviation and Airports Authority of India as the Implementing Agency will release Letter of Awards to the selected airlines with applicable terms and conditions. The focus will be on ensuring the early commencement of the routes awarded under UDAN 3.

All the Airlines will have to apply for Slots to the respective airports and the same would be approved by AAI, but the only concern here would be getting a new Slot at Mumbai, all other Airports do not have much traffic and hence that could happen in a fortnight once the airlines apply for.

The other concern that is there availability of Aircraft with the airlines.

Ghodawat Star Air has maximum 8 routes, and currently has only 2 airplanes with it. The two currently are on the Hubballi – Tirupati – Bengaluru route and from Feb 6 the Belagavi – Bengaluru route will be added.

all-airplanes udan

So for Star Air to commence all the 8 routes, it will take a while, as it took almost six months or more to commence operations from Hubballi under UDAN 2.

So when will it Start then?

The earliest could be SpiceJet which has two routes Mumbai and Hyderabad. They have airplanes and they will have to shift to start operations from Belagavi which even if they are all ready would take a month, so March or if things are moved on a fast note maybe end of February.

Even Alliance Air could start as it has planes. Turbo Megha also has started new routes under UDAN 2 just last week, so we will need to ascertain how they will engage their airplanes on routes from Belagavi.

In a nutshell, even if the routes are announced, the Aam Nagrik will have to wait for 2-9 months for all the 13 routes to be operational.

Also, it could be a possibility that Flights to Chennai could be started by other operators in the normal course.

Swami Vivekananda Memorial Belagavi to be dedicated on Feb 1

During his parivrajaka days, Swami Vivekananda visited Belagavi from 16 to 27 October 1892. Swamiji’s 12-day stay in Belagavi revolved around two buildings where he stayed as a guest—Bhate’s house and Haripada Mitra’s house. His first 3 days at Belagavi (16 to 18) were spent as a guest of a lawyer of the city, Shri Sadashiv Balakrishnapant Bhate (Bhausaheb).

Reminiscences of the visit of Swamiji to Bhate’s house have been noted down by Prof. Ganesh S. Bhate, the son of Shri Sadashiv Bhate, who at that time was a small boy. These can be read in Reminiscences of Swami Vivekananda published by Advaita Ashrama, Kolkata.

This house popularly referred to as the Bhate’s House was sold in the early 20th century to Shri Dattopant V. Belvi, another famous lawyer of the city.

In 1987 his son, Shri Balwant D. Belvi, a retired judicial magistrate, gifted one-third of the house including the room where Swami Vivekananda had stayed to an independent group of devotees of Ramakrishna Movement based in Karwar in Karnataka. In 2006, this was transferred to the Ramakrishna Mission, which started a sub-centre there. The room where Swami Vivekananda stayed has been maintained as a shrine. A cot, a large mirror and a walking stick used by Swamiji have been preserved there.

In 2014, the remaining portion of the house was purchased from its owner (the grandson of Shri Dattopant Belvi), thus making the Ramakrishna Mission the owner of the entire house.

The Swami Vivekananda Memorial will be dedicated on the first of February 2019.

An amount of Rs. 1 crore is required for the pending restoration works of the house and setting up the exhibition-museum at the Swami Vivekananda Memorial.

Restoration

As the Bhate’s House was partitioned among the descendants of its original owners, numerous partition walls and additional structures were raised both inside and outside the house for the convenience of the occupants. Over the years, due to indifferent maintenance, the structure developed cracks and weaknesses in different areas. Also due to a fire in May 2013, a portion of the top floor was burnt and required urgent repair.

It was felt that urgent restoration was required, to (i) strengthen and prevent further deterioration of the structure & (ii) to remove additional structures and restore the house to its original form when Swami Vivekananda stayed there.

After the Mission took possession of the entire house towards the end of October 2014, the restoration work was initiated. The restoration ensured that original material was retained and wherever necessary indigenous material and methods were used to strengthen the structure.

On completion, the house will be dedicated as the Swami Vivekananda Memorial. It will contain a museum-exhibition on Swami Vivekananda—his life and message. The museum will also include exhibits portraying the spiritual/cultural heritage of India. The upper portion of the house will also contain a small shrine and meditation room adjacent to the room where Swami Vivekananda had stayed.

Proposed future developments will include the purchase of a vacant plot of land right next to the main house (which will provide much-needed space around the house) and construction of buildings for carrying out educational, welfare & cultural activities of the Mission on a piece of land behind the main house, donated to Ramakrishna Mission by the Government of Karnataka.

Swamiji had great hopes in the youth. While the Swami Vivekananda Memorial and its subsequent activities have the entire society in mind, a special focus will be the holistic development of the youth. Instilling noble ideas and aspirations into the youth and addressing their problems will greatly help resolve the root cause of a variety of issues that plague today’s society.

Belagavi’s Journey of UDAN 3

$

When all the SpiceJet flights got diverted and we the people in Belagavi started showing a lot of resentment over it, but this criticism raised some strength, in understating to take this battle to next level, the battle to mass and the political class where it needs to be heard rightly and hit strongly.

Blessing in disguise came in when Save IXG campaign on twitter started by Aequs CEO Mr. Arvind Melligeri, now a resident of Belagavi and a native of Hubli. His dream enterprise to build the ecosystem of precision aerospace manufacturing in Belagavi requires airline connectivity as a continues need for frequent foreign delegates visiting SEZ

This campaign was much-needed spark to ignite the fire among we Belagaviites and went on to the next level and it was also headed using a social network platform WhatsApp  by Chaitanya Kulkarni, Sachin Sabnis and Yogesh, besides the much-needed media push by AllAboutBelgaum, and Pragatvahini of Mr. MK Hegde “Belgavige Flight beku” all this turned into a revolution.

This group brought in all the trade bodies under one forum, and all the forum heads like CREDAI’s Qais Noorani, KASSIA’s President  Basvraj Javli, Mr Rajeev Kaul CFO from Aequs, also the ladies wing Dr Sonali Sarnobat, industrialist Soniya Netalkar and Monika Sawant and many more lawyers industrialist  in their various capacities  contributed to the cause of much needed push to get the flight operational to the historical Airport of Belagavi in the state.

This forum now had one lacking factor to say and that was political will, with as usual “chalta hai attitude”, but the citizen rage and anguish this time enlighten our political representatives to shun their do-nothing attitude to act upon, there is where the whole journey for the inclusion of Belagavi under UDAN 3 started.

saveixgIn their personal capacity they all lead a delegation taking our elected representatives to the corridors of power in Delhi and that made a huge impact but though with initial disappointment of non-inclusion was a setback and best backed by rival MP to curtail as new flights to Belagavi means less load for the them and his constituency and keep Belagavi with minimum flights of Bangalore.

The D day and what next. On Jan 25th, 2019 UDAN 3 RCS routes were announced Belagavi got the highest number of bids on the list and destination

The speculation is high again, SpiceJet which has moved out, did their best to be back in skies of Belagavi for routes which were yielding high occupancy during non UDAN services, Ghodwat’s star Air which actually evinced and published its launch form Belagavi was driven to Bangalore as base of operation, has come up with massive route connection from Belagavi staring from 6th of Feb to Bangalore, the hopes are high that Ghodawat relocates home base as Belagavi soon.

Belagavi constitutes a very large cosmopolitan crowd of Defense establishment and the business establishment here have niche identity in hydraulics and engineering products and not the least the educational institutions and medical world-class facilities, in the coming days the skies of Belagavi will more colorful with  crisscross of Airlines and new destinations, giving the best to people of Belagavi and nearby places

This article is a tribute to all the contributors for a cause cannot though draft all the names, and much more left still to fight for and to bring the glory back to our lovable liveable city “Belagavi Belgaon Belgaum”, well  signing off with words of praise to them

We Belagaviites can fight any cause naturally because valor is in our Blood”

Everybody needs a doctor

by Dr. Madhav Prabhu

Doctors are nearly the best friend you have if you see it without a prism of SATYAMEVA JAYATE, the relation between a doctor and a patient is something which no other professional can develop. You can discuss the deepest darkest secrets and you can be sure there will be no gossip. The medical profession has taken me close to many a hearts and taught me so many things which otherwise life would never have taught me. But all of it is not serious and we do have our moments in practice.

Practicing in Belagavi though is a real challenge, not because the patients are different but because we need to deal with patients who speak five different languages with multiple different slangs and tones and add to this the mixture of words from each language and then you get the perfect Belagavi Bhasha.

Let me give you an example there are words like ‘kalmadi and bailkade’ in Kannada (Belagavi dialect) which a doctor from south Karnataka would never understand (its related to emptying your wastes for your info), but our patients use it every day. Such easy words would definitely be easier to say rather than ‘mala and mutra’.

doc1

If you think the movie Piku and the role played by Amitabh was imaginary well think again it actually does happen and we bear the brunt of it, the patient expects us to listen to the entire description of the process of passing stools, the prelude the color, the fragrance, the consistency, the shape, the size and the sound effects which accompany, every detail is discussed some of which is medically relevant I agree but don’t you see who else will the poor person discuss all this with if not for the doctor. I don’t know of any relative who would listen to all these details.

This is especially true with our senior citizens, even a heart attack does not bother them, then we worried about two things and that is a good appetite and a good force to empty the stomach, you restore that and you are a good doctor.

Another word that doctors only in this side of the state learn about is ‘Hasagi Pathya’, ever heard of it?. Pathya to everyone means diet right. No sorry, don’t be confused its not the diet to be eaten in bed but it concerns something about which every man is bothered, his sex life. At first, this was a shocker to me too, when patients used these words, but over time I knew that a patient of heart attack or stroke is usually more bothered by this question than what diet he had to eat.

Then again, can you discuss this with any other friend but a doctor? Doctors have to decide if you can indulge, can you imagine someone else doing it. My patients never complained so hopefully my advice was bang on. Although it sounds funny we doctors take this as a responsibility.

doc1

The best patients, however, are the grandmoms, they think every doctor is their grandson, one who knows everything in the world. I once had a patient, a grandmom whom I had to examine, I asked her how many times she passes urine and whether the quantity was fair enough, and alas she retorted immediately, how am I supposed to know, I am not the doctor, you are.

How am I as a doctor supposed to know this, well I am next to God, so I guess she is fair in her demand. But we doctors love the grandmoms, I do, I can assure you that.

doc1

The sad part though is that not all the elderly come to us with happiness, there are those abandoned by their kids, neglected by the society and who visit doctors, not for the treatment, but because the clinic is the only place they can visit and the doctor is the only person who listens to them. Who else would have the time to listen to their experience and every small problem that they face.

We also have the incredible weight conscious people who come to us with so much dedication to weight loss. They always want to lose weight, and we always have diet and exercise advice ready for them. But then they have their worst enemies in the forms of marriage, jatra, festivals, mango season and so on and so forth, how can they not succumb to such worldly desires.

Doctor I haven’t lost a single gram of weight is what we are used to hearing. Actually, the gyms around us should pay us for herding so many people to them, people who pay but never turn up. I am trying doctor please help me, can you give me a tablet to lose weight? I can’t stop eating and I can’t exercise, well we are still in process of searching those pills I must confess.

doc1

We also have the Internet users, who study everything about the medicines but not the diseases, doctor I read Wikipedia yesterday and it says that the medicine you gave me causes gastritis, in one in every thousand patient, should I take it?, it takes some time to convince them that they are one in a million and not one in a thousand. There are some though who really give you good feedback and we do except a change.

And then we have the caring patients, they care for the doctor too, doctor did you have lunch? Did you lose weight? are you tied? , there are patients who do all this I swear, it does feel good. We also get the sweets, the fruits, the biryani and lots of smiles and this makes the profession worth giving time to.

There are many such bonds that only a doctor and patient can share. In a city like Belagavi life is still cozy for a doctor as long as he enjoys the company of patients or can we say best friends.

Belagavi Nala Revitalisation project by Reading Grounds, Bengaluru wins this year’s Indian Society of Landscape Architect (ISOLA) Award in the Unbuilt Design Category

Reading Grounds is an architecture and a landscape design practice based in Bengaluru. The team comprising of five members researching on the network of nalas of Belagavi. Mr. Shantesh Kelvekar and Ms. Maithily Velangi from Belagavi led a research and design work on the revitalisation of the nala network within the city.

The Belagavi Taluka comprises of a stream network of over 350 km. due to the terrain and its geographical location of being at the foot of Western Ghats. The City’s Muncipal limits itself comprise approximately 40 km. of a network – which was considered as part of the revitalisation proposal.

The nalas that are actually sweet water stream – that one can witness near Hotel Green and Vaccine Depot – they are an overflow from Lakshmi Tekdi and Rakaskop reservoir. The water, as it transitions through the city, get mixed with sewage. One can clearly see the transition in the quality of water as it passes through Camp, Station Road, Shastry Nagar and Shivaji Garden right up to Old PB Road, before it touches Bellary Nala.

‘Nala’, often termed in the context of sewage drain, has now become a reality of the people of Belagavi. The design proposal looks at a fundamental and a pragamatic solution of claiming back the water streams from these nalas and develop them into a green network which allows for pedestrian and bicycle connections, public greens and connected ecological corridors for reviewing the landscape of Belagavi.

The team believes that doing this in phases will reduce the significant carbon footprint of the city, and will bring down the temperature in the coming years. Their next plan of action is to host an event/ exhibition to engage the city’s public to participate and also to create awareness on the possibilities. They’re also trying to get in touch with Belagavi Smart City Limited to show them this proposal.

The team comprising of Preetanshi Singh, Shantesh kelvekar, Maithily Velangi, Siddhi Khirad and Kushal Surana from Reading Grounds has won this year’s Indian Society of Landscape Architects (ISOLA) Award in the Unbuilt Design category for their ongoing design and research proposal.

Departments asked to submit report on Third gate visual concept and traffic management plan

A video which is a visual concept for a Bridge and traffic management at Third Gate Tilakwadi Belagavi has gone Viral on Social media after we shared it and each one is appreciating the work done by Mohsin Tahsildar, who is a professional video animator.

Mohsin was then called by MP Suresh Angadi at a review meeting in which he presented his plan to the officers and he was asked to submit in writing to the Deputy Commissioner.

Now the Deputy Commissioner’s office has asked 5 departments namely Belagavi Smart City Ltd, Commissioner of Police Belagavi, Chief Engineer(Construction) SWR, Commissioner, City Corporation Belagavi, PWD to submit their feasibility report about the same.

Mohsin on his own submitted the letter to the DC and now he has been issued this new letter in which all the departments will have to submit their reports.

3rdgateSpeaking to AAB, Mohsin said, I have prepared copies of the plan and will submit to the departments when I am called. I am doing this for the love of my city, and this is not my individual project. Hope the administration also understands this and all the departments will co-ordinate and co-operate with me.

mohsin

The sad part is this concept which is really noteworthy will be only in digital media as in reality the RoB planned will be just a cross over RoB from this side of the gate to the other with no connections to Congress road or elsewhere.

This video shows the exact way how a Smart city should be planned and projects such as these will only make it smart.

Now it is up to the departments to come forward and check the feasibility of the same. Mohsin is not an architect or town planner but his experience in making visual concepts, he has studied and made this visualization.

Mohsin added that he will submit the letter personally to all the departments to make the process faster.

The MARATHA Light Infantry Regiment of the Indian Army is celebrating 250th raising day this year from February 04 to February 06 at regimental centre Belagavi.

February 04 has a historical significance as on this day in 1670 Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji, conquered Fort Kondhana famously known as Sinhgarh near Pune in Maharashtra and Maratha Light Infantry (MLI) battalions posted across the country celebrate this day as ‘Maratha Day’.

Maratha Day – February 4 commemorates the momentous day when Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had resolved to reclaim his lost territories. On 04 February 1670, Chhatrapati Shivaji had started the victory march by capturing Kondhana fort (present-day Singhgarh fort) in Pune. This victory was a cornerstone in the King’s conquest.

Maratha light Infantry Regiment celebrates February 4 as Maratha Day ‘The warrior’ Tanaji Malusare, commander of Chhatrapati Shivaji was given the task to capture Sinhgarh Fort from Mughals headed by Udaybhan Singh Rathod, fortkeeper under Mughal General Jai Singh. A steep cliff leading to the fort was scaled at night with the help of a tamed monitor lizard named “Yashwanti”, to whom the Marathas attached a rope and sent to scale the wall with its claws. A fierce battle took place between the forces of Tanaji and Udaybhan. The fort was eventually captured but during the battle, Tanaji was gravely wounded and died fighting on the battlefield. Upon hearing the demise of Tanaji, Shivaji was struck with grief and expressed his sorrow by uttering,

Gad aala, pan Sinha gela”

(“ The Fort is captured but, but the Lion is dead” )

Tanaji Malusare’s supreme dedication and sacrifice are being celebrated proudly as he is an inspiring figure for all Maratha soldiers and the Regiment draws inspiration from his legacy. To commemorate the supreme sacrifice of Tanaji Malusare and capture of Sinhgarh fort by the gallant Maratha warriors on Maratha Day and 250 glorious years of the raising of Maratha Regiment, numerous cultural programs, and adventure activities are being conducted at The Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre, Belagavi from 04- 06 February 2019.
