On 09 Sep 2018, during the hours of darkness two T-55 Tanks lumbered into the MARATHA Regt Centre to be displayed as War Trophies in the Talekar Drill Square, Belagavi. These T-55 tanks are now obsolete however were the mainstay of Indian Army Armed Regiments in the late 70 & 80’s before modern tanks rendered them to be relics of the old time. These tanks have seen action in the Western borders of our country and now are proudly displayed at the Talekar Drill Square of the MARATHA Regimental Centre.
These T-55 tanks weighing almost 50 tons had to be brought from Pune on Tank Transportation traveling only during the night to avoid daytime traffic. Once in the Drill Square lifting them off the Tank Transporter and placing them at their designated location was a herculean task. For this Mr. Imtiaz Khan Pathan firm “IN Pathan Infrastructure Machinery Hirers” was instrumental in completing the task with utmost professionalism. The firm employed 4 Escort F-15 Cranes which lifted the tanks from the Tank Transporter with great coordination and placed them properly on the pre-prepared platforms in the Talekar Drill Square. Mr. Imtiaz Khan Pathan has not accepted any financial remuneration citing it is great service to the nation’s defense forces which cannot be remunerated financially.
The T-55’s have increased the status of The MARATHA Light Infantry Regimental Centre and its imposing presence in the Drill Square would act as motivating factor for all.
