Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy disclosed his plans to shift a few departments to North Karnataka districts for better governance. Kumaraswamy said he plans to set up industrial clusters as well as the transfer of departments. Head offices of Krishna Bhagya Jala Nigam etc that work for North-Karnataka issues will be moved to Belagavi.
Chief Minister also has plans of transferring out one of the Upalokayuktas to Belagavi so people from the districts do not have to come all the way to Bengaluru to air their grievances.
He also promised of shifting offices of some government departments and boards/corporations to the Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi to take the administration to the doorsteps of the people in northern Karnataka.
The Karnataka assembly under the JD(S)-BJP regime in 2006 had adopted a unanimous resolution to grant Belagavi the status of second capital.
Reviving the same issue, Kumaraswamy said the government will consider the old proposal of declaring Belagavi the second capital of Karnataka. “The proposal to declare Belagavi the second capital of Karnataka has been pending since I became CM in 2006. However, subsequent governments did not consider the proposal. I will reconsider the proposal and deliberate on the feasibility of the matter.”
