Cold Storage and meat processing units raided in Belagavi

Officials of the National Animal Welfare Board have raided the meat processing units in Auto Nagar Belagavi and late in the evening FIR was filed.

Animal Welfare Board officials on Monday filed a complaint with Mal maruti police station on three meat processing units in the city. But the police were not allowing the officials and were trying to defer their action under some pressure the Animal board officials said.

Earlier in the day the welfare board officials, who had faced severe opposition from the meat processing units, later entered the unit and were there till late night.

slauighter-houseCity lawyer Harshavardhan Patil had filed a complaint with the Delhi Animal Welfare Board in January about the unlawful animal slaughter and meat trade in the city. Three meat processing units in Auto Nagar are said to have unofficially stocked up meat around Rs 30 crore according to the lawyer.

BJP activists protested demanding transparency in illegal activities. Despite complaints against illegal activities, the authorities did not take any action. Various leaders of the BJP demanded that legal action be taken at least on three units on which the raids have happened. BJP leaders Kiran Jadhav, Anil Benake, Rajendra Harakuni and others have warned that if there is any negligence in the investigation, they will have to protest against the same.

Shrushti Agro Cold storage, Neil Agro Cold storage, Seven Star Agro Cold storage were raided and officials of the FSSAI and animal Husbandry were called upon to make the Panchnama and samples of the meat stored have also been taken for investigation as per the police. Meat used to be brought here from other places processed and packed. Now the Lab report is awaited.
