Angadis absence from the Protest irks workers

Source The Hindu

BJP leader Suresh C. Angadi left party workers in the lurch when he failed to show up to lead the party workers’ rally at the site of the alleged fake grave at Khanjar galli in the city on Wednesday. However, the party’s plan was foiled by the district administration and the police officials.

Mr. Angadi, along with the former MLA Abhay Patil, had declared on Sunday he would lead the protest to pressure the district administration and police to remove the grave on a site claimed to be belonging to the Belagavi City Corporation. Party workers were disappointed when he did not turn up.

Later, Mr. Angadi told a section of the media over telephone that he had obliged to Deputy Commissioner N. Jayaram’s request against organising the protest, in the interest of communal harmony and peace in the city.

Mr. Angadi’s absence gave a chance for Mr. Patil and Kiran Jadhav, who had unsuccessfully contested from Belagavi North in the last Assembly elections , to consolidate their leadership among party workers.

Mr. Angadi, reacting to Congress MLA Feroz N. Sait’s criticism, said that he had gone to the latter’s house and requested to get the fake grave removed.

Instead of showing gratitude for his effort to find a peaceful solution to the controversy, Mr. Sait had chosen to criticise him.
