SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT

  Total quantity of MSW generation : 200 TO 220 TPD

• Steps involved in SWM

  • Method of collection:

    • Primary Collection – Door to door collection with segregation

    • Provided metallic containers in designated places all over the city.

    • Tippers and lorries covered with plastic/tarpaulins

    • Dumper Placers

    • Aerobic composting process

The City Corporation Belagavi is having 58 wards out of which 47 wards have been outsourced and remaining 11 wards being managed by corporation porkarmikas. In the outsource wards the contractor has to carry our door to door collection with segregation and street sweeping and lifting of garbage

IEC ACTIVITY

Action has been taken to educate the school Children, Self help groups and RWA through NGOs and autonomous bodies and persons who are actively involved in such activities of educating the public in respect of solid waste management in all the ULB’s and Awareness is being created through Local news channel, Hoarding display, regular audio announcement through ULB vehicles, Competition and pamphlets distribution. All the CMC,TMC have identified Rag Pickers and they are collecting the recyclable plastic and other waste during door to collection, from ward level and also at landfill site during segregation and they are selling to local waste dealers.

DOOR TO DOOR COLLECTION OF WASTE

Primary collection of the solid waste is being done in the ULB’s is through push-carts, Auto tippers, Tractor trailer and other vehicles and by involving contractor and SHG,NGO agencies. Total overall percentage is about 94%.The City Corporation Belagavi is collection SWM cess along with property tax. The details are as below.

Regarding source segregation, the Rag Pickers who are presently collecting the reusable material during door to door collection and from ward level and selling it to wholesale dealers.

SECONDARY COLLECTION AND TRANSPORTATION

In the 47 wards containers has been removed and remaining wards 3.0 and 4.5 CUM containers are being used for secondary collection and transportation is being done by the Dumper Placer/ Tractor Placers.
