A Small Step towards Make in India / Skill India
Karnataka German Technical Training Institute (KGTTI) conducted Competency Development Training on Basic Workshop Practices for the employees of Expert Engineering Enterprises.
Idea was mooted at a meeting at KGTTI when the Industrialists of Udyambag, Belagavi visited to KGTTI, Belagavi. KGTTI is an initiative of Govt of India and Govt of Karnataka with a technical advisory from GIZ-IS to train students and the employees for employable training programs. It was this idea of upskilling and testing the competency of the employees was seized upon by Mr.Vinayak Lokur of Expert Engg. Enterprises and immediately officials of HR dept visited to initiate the program. As a start, all the employees of Expert Engg Enterprises were administered a competency test to gauge their competency in the workshop practice. Once the test was evaluated, a curriculum to cover the gaps was designed. Exposure on Engg Drawing, Metrology, Tools and Quality Objectives was prepared and critically evaluated by all the stake holders. First trial batch of 15 employees who volunteered for the training program was started on July 1st 2015. Training program was held in the morning session without disturbing the work schedule of the employees. A mid-term feedback was taken to do the necessary course corrections. Test and assignments were conducted after each module to find the learning effectiveness of the employees. At the end of the training program a written test, viva and practical test were conducted. Results were found to be amazing as there was remarkable difference in learning before and after the training program.
On 10 Sept, 2015 certificate awarding function was conducted in the presence of Mr.Anil Bhandari, Team Leader, GIZ-IS, Mr.Chidanand, Director, KGTTI, Mr.Vinayak Lokur, MD, Expert Engg Enterprises, Mr.Santhosh M, Expert Engg Enterprises and Shashidhara, Senior Technical Expert GIZ-IS. Employees appreciated that training program that it made a big change in their working environment as they are performing the operations with requisite knowledge. Also they expressed that the program was very useful and all their fellow employees also have to go through the program. Mr.Anil Bhandari appreciated learning of the employees in such short duration. Mr.Vinayak also expressed that this unique program of Competency Development would enhance the productivity and contribute to Make In India / Skill India initiative.
