St. Paul’s will meet Sant Meera in the final of Royceton Gomes Tournament

Today on the grounds of St. Paul’s High School crowds witnessed two very exciting semi-final matches. St. Paul’s High School took on Phoenix Public School at 3:00 PM. From the stands there were huge crowds cheering both St. Pauls, the defending champions, and Phoenix Public. For the major part of the first half, both teams played well and were well matched. However, towards the end of the first half, Vajragouda Patil got a clean shot into the goal and scored a goal for St. Paul’s in the 23rd minute. The score at half time was 1 – 0 with St. Paul’s in the lead. In the second half, the game became even more exciting as both the teams played an agressive game to score. Phoenix tried hard to equalize but Gaurav Patil scored the second goal for St. Paul’s in the 53rd minute. St. Paul’s won the match 2 – 0 and sealed their spot in the Finals. royceton-1

In the second semi-final match at 4:30 PM, Marathi Vidyaniketan clashed with Sant Meera High School. The game began well with both teams playing their best and eyeing the other spot in the Finals. In the 17th minute, Pavan Bhandari opened the score of the match for Sant Meera through a powerful shot off a free kick. MV Niketan fought hard to score but the score at half time was 1 – 0 with Sant Meera in the lead. In the second half, Sant Meera stepped up their game and tried hard to increase their lead but MV Niketan defended well and stopped Sant Meera in their tracks from progressing any further. MV Niketan were unable to score any goals and Sant Meera held on to their lead. Sant Meera won the match 1 – 0 and trumped the other spot in the Finals.

St. Paul’s will meet Sant Meera in the finals match on Friday, August 7, on the grounds of St. Paul’s Highs School at 3:30 PM. Rev. Fr. Basil Vagho, Principal of St. Paul’s High School will be the Chief Guest and Mrs. Vanessa Gomes-Mendonca, sister of Master Royceton Gomes, will be the Guest of Honour of the Closing Ceremony and Prize Distribution.
