At the first board meeting of the newly elected members of the Belagavi Cantonment board, unanimous decision was taken and April 14 was set as the deadline for vendors to vacate their shops in the vegetable market situated in a defence property on Fort Road (Wholesale Vegetable Market)

The lease expired long ago and there was no provision under the Cantonment Board Act to renew the lease terms hereafter. Vendors, with no option but to shift to locations such as the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee yard.
